Welding Charity Fund of IIW

IIW is focused on the future of welding and allied processes and strongly engages with legacy.
For some years, the IIW developed activities that address the future generation of welding professionals and
leaders.

The Working Group Young Professionals is part of the IIW Technical Management Board and is focused on
increasing the engagement of future generations in the scientific and technical activities of IIW. This includes
events designed exclusively for Young Professionals, mentoring and IIW Student Chapters opened in various
countries around the world.

The IIW International Authorisation Board operates a global system to educate, train qualify, and certify
individuals in the field of welding and allied processes. It is widely used and recognized as a best practice in
all education levels, from vocational training centers up to universities, doctorate schools, and master
programs.

In 2021, IIW launched the IIW Future Leaders program, where Member Societies nominate individuals with an
age below 35 coming both from academia and industry to participate in the activities of the IIW Board of
Directors. Two candidates are selected every year and receive financial support for their travel expenses to
join IIW during winter meetings and the Annual Assemblies. This year the program was renamed “David
Landon Future Leaders Program”, after the name of our late President who initiated the program.

This year IIW opened the Welding Charity Fund of IIW, to support specific projects within the scope of our
organization. The fund is administered by a committee chaired by an IIW vice President and works under the
authority of the IIW Board of Directors. In 2022 the fund supported the Ukrainian Welding community for an
amount of 13,780.00€. With the support of the Japanese Welding Engineering Society, this ensured the
Ukrainian engagement in IIW activities, including the participation of a delegation to the IIW Annual Assembly
and International Conference in Tokyo and the delivery of IIW products and services in the country.

The IIW charity fund is financially supported by IIW but also from donations from IIW Member Societies, other
organizations, or anyone willing to contribute financially to our projects. Feel free to contact
rosario.russo@iiwelding.net to get more information on the functioning of the fund, ongoing and future
projects, and how to offer a donation.
